Lacing Them Up

Lacing Them Up

$30.00 USD

This painting radiates anticipation. My goal is to place you directly in my skates, (my Kangaroo Leather Bauer 92’s) looking out over a frozen pond in Newfoundland, freshly laced and ready for action. The perspective is personal and immersive, with my Sherwood PMP 5030 hockey stick resting across my legs and the puck waiting just ahead, like a silent invitation.

The red goal net in the distance stands as a familiar target, not just for shots, but for memories. Snow covered trees encircle the rink, forming a natural amphitheater where laughter and shouts will soon echo. The sky, a crisp blend of blue and white, suggests a perfect winter day—cold enough to keep the ice solid, bright enough to keep spirits high.
This isn’t a scene of solitude—it’s the calm before the storm of joyful chaos. My friends are just off frame, skates scraping the ice, gloves being tugged on, sticks tapping in rhythm. The painting captures that sacred pause between preparation and play, when the world narrows to the pond, the puck, and the promise of hours lost in the game.
It’s a tribute to my youth: the lacing of skates, the first glide, the shared thrill of pond hockey in the heart of Newfoundland.
